Transition Update

UFF and its partners recognized early that current DCF employees bring a great deal of experience and commitment to improving our child welfare system. In fact, for the first several months, the recruitment campaigns and activities had focused exclusively on DCF employees. To ensure that DCF employees were given sufficient opportunity to learn about each agency and all employment opportunities, the following events were conducted by UFF, CHS, and FPS.

Meet and Greet: DCF employees were invited for an opportunity to learn more about UFF and the system of care. UFF employees were available to answer questions (i.e., how cases will be transferred, etc.) Agency representatives were also available to answer questions. These were casual events with refreshments provided for prospective employees.

Focus Groups: Focus Groups were held with DCF line staff, as well as staff on the supervisory level during the months of February and March. Employees were given an opportunity to voice their ideas about the new system of care and the changes that needed to be made as the community developed the new system. This was also an opportunity for them to ask questions about the transition process.

Job Fairs: These events were held at each Service Center by UFF, CHS, and FPS. CHS and FPS displayed an informational booth and representatives were available to discuss employment opportunities, provide job descriptions, tables of organization, descriptions of benefits, outlines of the selection process, etc. Resumes and employment applications were accepted and interviews were scheduled for interested DCF staff.

Employment Interviews: Interviews were conducted at each Service Center for interested applicants. The applicants were provided the opportunity to ask questions about the transition process. Applicants were notified of job offers during the weeks of May 6 and May 12, 2003. The employees listed below have accepted positions within our case management agencies.
