Last chance to register for Labor Day 5K Race to Stop the Tears

Vero Beach – This is the last week to register for United for Families’ sixth annual Race to Stop the Tears, which is scheduled for September 3 – Labor Day – at South Beach Park, Vero Beach.

Online registration will close Thursday, August 30, at noon. Those who do not register in advance or online at www.uff.us, can do so at 6:15 a.m. the day of the run for an increased registration fee.

Early registration is $25 for adults and $15 for children. Team registration is $100.

“Much of our work is done right here is Vero Beach,” said Joe Chiarella, a member of the United for Families’ board of directors and Vero Beach resident. “Having the event here is important to the organization’s outreach.”

In fact, the race is largely responsible for the growing number of Vero Beach businesses that are coming forward to support United for Families’ mission to break the cycle of child abuse.

And that is important to the organization’s Road to Success program. Proceeds from the run will go toward the program, which teaches independent-living skills and prepares teenagers for life outside the foster-care system.

Since United for Families began the program, more than 50 former foster children have started college or graduated with a degree.
